Application packets are available for the Jeremy Heiss Memorial Scholarship. contact Josie Mincher at 520 432-3203 or at p o box 304 Bisbee, az 85603 . 2 250.00 scholarships will be awarded this year to 2 graduating seniors. applications will also be available at the Bisbee High School Counselors office on April 28.
last year when I was helping Jeremy with all of his scholarship applications, he made a few comments to me , maybe out of frustration or maybe because he knew he wasnt going to be here much longer and he wanted to let me know. Based on these conversations we have established a criteria that is different from all others. Steve and I will conduct personal interviews and i would like to ask another family member to be the third person. any volunteers? the criteria and pertinent information about the scholarship is as follows:
this scholarship is available to any graduations senior, planning on continuing education at an acredited Arizona community college or vocational school ( no universities please). selection will be determined via application, and personal interview to a student that most embodies Jeemy's talents, goals, dedication, strength, determination, personality. this will be a cash award to be used at the students discretion to offest expenses of attneding school. students that are NOT in the TOP 10 of their graduating class will be given priority. applicants should have an interest in or have participated in any of the folowing activities or have similar goals.
1. be of Hispanic or American Indian heritage
2.has been in the past, or is currently a member of a single parent family
3.has financial need, not necessarily based on family income ( please specify, i. e. job loss, illness, etc)
4. plans to pursue a career in :
nursing
art or any associated careers
Music or any associated careers
Psychology/ Psychiatry or any associated careers
Aviation or any associated careers
Health and fitness or any associated careers
5. GPA of at least 2.50
6. Has participated in High shcool sports, music or arts ( band, cross country and wrestling will have higher priority)
7 provides a list of academic and athletic honors if available
8. community service projects
9.plays an instrument
10.participates in other non school sanctioned activities ( scouting, church, clubs, bisbee 1000 stair climb, running club, wrestlign club, member of a band)
11. is the first member of immediate family attending college
submits an essay answering the following questions:
tell me about yourself and your family
what are your goals and dreams and how do you plan to achieve them.
what made you choose your career path
what are your hobbies
explain how health and fitness fits into your life
what things may prevent you from reaching your goals and what plan do you have to ovecome
how have you ovecome and obstacle in your life
why do you think we should coose you as the recipient of this scholarship
what are your plans after college graduation
